"Andrea's Flag" oil, 40" by 30"
When I decided to paint a larger portrait of Andrea, I wanted it to express something about who she was. Her African-American Father, who'd recently passed away, spent his life serving our country in the military. While stationed in Korea, he'd met and married Andrea's Mother, who immigrated to this country and proudly became an American citizen. It seemed to me that Andrea's story was typical of the multitude of races that have made our country the diverse and hopeful place it is. In her face, I saw the best of what our nation represents. I saw that I was looking into the face of a true American, simple as that.

This painting can be seen at the Westervelt-Warner Museum, which purchased Scott's painting, "Andrea's Flag" for the museum's permanent collection. The museum's collection includes works by James A. McNeill Whistler, John Singer Sargent, Frederic E. Church, Childe Hassam, Thomas Cole, Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer, Duncan Phyfe, Mary Cassatt, James Peale, and many others.
