The painting of "Rebecca Fire Lit" was done in the studio of his wife, artist Sue Lyon. The pose was set up to illustrate the interplay of color temperature from opposing light sources, one a hot red-orange and the other cool sky-blue. Always the articulate instructor, Scott leaves no concept unspoken in explaining the subject of color temperature, with emphasis on what determines whether a color is warm or cool, how and where to use it.

Photographing Your Artwork -- 2 hour 20 minutes $75

V-SB2B

"For the modern artist, Photography is just as essential a skill as drawing and color, both in the creation of your art as well as in its documentation and marketing. In this video, I hope to give you the basic rundown of the various cameras at your disposal and what uses a working artist has for each, both for gathering reference material for your paintings as well photographing your artwork for reproduction in prints, magazines, and for slide submission to shows. Particular attention will be given to using a polarization setup for eliminating glare on oil paintings and the use of a 4" by 5" view camera, 35mm, and digital camera to shoot your artwork." ... Scott Burdick

This video is truly crammed with information, from the very basic operations of a camera's aperture, f-stops, light meters, etc. to the more advanced issues facing an artist. I only wish I could mail this video back in time to myself when I first finished Art School since it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration!

Demonstration of "Peru Colors" -- 6 hour video

Liliedahl Video Productions came to my studio and filmed this painting for an instructional video/dvd. It was quite an elaborate process, with three cameras, microphones, and tons of equipment! I was exhausted when it was finished, but hope it will be worthwhile. I was especially happy that they had a separate camera on the palette and also a very close-up camera so you can really see the brushwork.

One of the things I regret when teaching a workshop is the limits of time and the fact that I usually only have a couple of hours for my demonstration. I always worry that students will come away with the false idea that you should work fast, and the fact that the production crew were willing to spend as long as it took to film this painting (ten hours over a couple of days for this painting) and to see how I really work in the studio, including re-doing certain areas over and over until they are right, was the main thing that interested me in working with them as a production company. Below are some photos of the painting I did for the demonstration. Just click the link below to go to the Liliedahl website with all the details of the video and ordering info.
